Since Priority Mail® supplies are the packaging of choice for families and friends preparing care packages for service members overseas, the post office has created a “Mili-kit” based on the items most frequently requested by the military. This kit is available for free to military families.
The contents of the kit change from time to time. Right now, each kit contains:
- 2 large priority mail flat-rate boxes
- 4 medium priority mail flat-rate boxes
- Priority mail address labels
- 1 roll priority mail tape (yay!)
- Customs envelopes.
Request your FREE Military Care package kit by calling 1-800-610-8734.
When you reach a live agent, request the “Military Kit. Allow 7-10 days for delivery. You can request up to 4 kits.
You can also order your USPS Military Care kit online here.
You will also be issued a customer ID number to make it easier for you to reorder supplies next time.
Mail sent to APO and FPO addresses overseas require special customs forms. All mail addressed to military post offices overseas is subject to certain conditions or restrictions regarding content, preparation and handling.
Mailing the package is NOT free. The cost to mail the large flat-rate box to APO/FPO changes each year. Check the USPS website for current pricing.

Hey, for anyone who’s not aware ,you should know that plain packages mailed from a military post office (such as from Okinawa, Korea, etc) with an APO or FPO return address going to another MPO such as an APO or FPO overseas can be shipped FREE as long as you do not put any priority mail labels or packaging on it. Once you do that, you have to pay full shipping price for it.

Are there ways I can send care packages to soldiers I do not know? If so could I send magazines? Can I send homemade cookies? My family and I are looking for ways to support our soldiers since there is no USO office in our state.

I know this post is a few years old but I just called the number and was connected to a representative and I stated that I wanted a free kit. He took my information and said that I could get the maximum of 10 kits free. I am excited and wish that I knew of this sooner.

If you are the girlfriend of the soldier do you still get this kit for free
Or do you have to be married or a family member to get it free.

Your phone number that you give to call for the FREE military care package doesnot understand English I guess, I could NEVER get to a live agent to do what this site is telling me to do in order to receive my care package. Wanted to send my daughter in law a care package over in the desert where she is located. United States Air Force. Please advise of another way that I may get this care package. please.

Hi Tracy. Sorry to hear you are having problems. I just called the number and pressed 1. It then connected me to an agent. Also, this is not a free care package. It’s a kit that includes packaging required for you to send a package. You can also get these packaging supplies at your local post office. There is no charge for the boxes.
Blessings, Army Mom Strong.

I am looking for help on How and where to send a Package for a solider, my friend is an administer of a Special needs home of 5 Clients and she was thinking that putting together a kit by them would be a good learning experience for them, From reading the comments I see we can get the packaging kits at the post office for free, so that’s easy.
But 1 how do we find out who and where we can send it to?
2. What would me put into the kits?
Please e-mail me
thank You
Army says
Hi Lorraine. Thanks for your message. To send a package you need to know someone in the Military so you can get the address or you’ll have to do so through an organization like Soldiers Angels.
