Life for military kids is full of challenges like frequent moves, unique adventures, coping with parents that are gone on deployments and adapting to new situations. Turning these challenges into positive life experiences can make all the difference to military kids.
Often, the only friends that understand a child’s military lifestyle are other military kids. But what about kids not connected to the military? How can we help others understand this military life?
A new book, “The Adventures of a Military Brat: My Military Life” was created to encourage military kids and help others understand more about a military kids life experiences.
The Adventures of a Military Brat: My Military Life
After reading this book, I couldn’t wait to share it with my grandchildren who live a military lifestyle. Their life experiences mirror those of the boy in the book!
Aimed at children 5 to 8 years old, this encouraging story follows a brave boy who gets to “show off” his military lifestyle during a reunion with a visiting cousin.
He shares many highlights of his journey typical of a military child’s life, including frequent moves, absent parents, making new friends and saluting the flag during bugle call.
The authors, Johanna and Daniel Gomez, show young readers how even during these emotional challenges, they can also be adventurous and unique opportunities for fun, growth and pride.
Daniel Gomez is an Army Special Operations Officer and Combat Veteran and Johanna is a military spouse and Licensed Mental Health Counselor dedicated to supporting service members and their families.
It’s a delightful story that also shows non-military children what it’s like to be part of a military family.
The imagery in the book is full of colorful characters that capture the joys of a military kid’s unique life adventures.
The Adventures of a Military Brat is a book series created to serve the needs of military kids. I highly recommend this first book in the series to encourage the positive aspects of military life for kids!
