Whether your service member is in boot camp, basic training or deployed, staying connected with family and friends is a huge morale booster.
As they face new challenges on their military journey, we must show our support and gratitude. Sending frequent letters is a powerful way to bring love and laughter to our loved ones that can have a lasting impact.
How to communicate is the first question I hear from military moms when their sons and daughters begin their military journey. I remember when my son went to basic training I couldn’t wait to receive his address so I could send encouragement and pictures from home.
My letters helped him through the tough times and brought him joy hearing stories from home.
They need us behind them cheering them on!
These days, new technologies can get your letters in the hands of your soldier in training (SIT) faster! I love that and wish I had that many years ago!
The Sandboxx App Helps you Stay Connected to your Service Member
What if you could send a physical letter with a photo to your service member using your phone?
Well, you can with the Sandboxx app. No matter where you are, you can send a letter whenever you feel inspired to do so from your phone. Your message and images are converted into a real letter that is printed and mailed to your service member.
The best part?
For those in basic training and boot camp, your letter will be in your service member’s hands within a day or two! No more waiting for days and days until your letter reaches your loved one.
That’s not all!
Included with your letter is a return envelope so they can write you back!
This innovative app is the creation of Sam Meek and Maj. Gen. Ray L. Smith, Founders of Sandboxx. They saw a need for a more effective method to facilitate military service member communications.
Their vision for friends and family to send letters and pictures to those in boot camp or deployed was brought to life with Sandboxx.
Honestly, I wish I had such an app when my son was in basic training so many years ago! It’s the best app I’ve seen for military families.
Sending Letters with Sandboxx to Basic Training and Boot Camp
As our loved ones go off to basic training or boot camp, we can’t wait to send that first letter! It’s the main form of communication since they have very limited phone time, if at all.
Being able to expedite the process of getting a letter sent with Sandboxx makes it that much easier! Instead of waiting nearly 2 weeks, your service member can have that letter in a day or two!
I sent my son plenty of letters when he was in Army basic training. It was a process every time. I would have to print a photo at the store, write the letter, go to the post office to make sure I had the right amount of postage, and then mail it!
That all took time! And then he didn’t actually receive it for nearly two weeks.
The Sandboxx app streamlines the whole process. You can be anywhere, take a fun photo, and with a few taps, have your letter written and on its way within a few minutes.
No printing. No post office lines. No extra time spent on the mailing process.
Your letters will mean so much to your service member! My son used to keep encouraging letters from home close-by for when he went through those tough challenges.
When your child is going through the toughest challenge ever, you want to be there for them. Letters help you do that and Sandboxx military app gets them to your loved one fast!
Sending Letters with Sandboxx to Deployed Service Members
During my son’s deployment overseas, letters from home was the best gift our family could give him. It gave him great comfort hearing about family and friends and seeing pictures of his kids.
It’s a little slice of home that brightened my son’s day from a 1/2 world away.
They knew me well at the post office as I was there several times a week. And, I went through tons of printer paper printing out photos.
UPDATE: I personally used SANDBOXX when my son was deployed recently. Sharing photos from special events or everyday life made a huge difference for my deployed service member. The app was easy to use and it was fun to send a photo from wherever we were.
I recommend SANDBOXX because I have personally used it multiple times and had a great experience with the app.
Conclusion
Whether your service member is deployed or in basic training, communicating through letters helps keep their spirits high!
Sandboxx makes it easy to send letters along with photos and a return envelope. What could be better?

Is there a computer website that can do the same thing? I do not put apps on my phones, to old to deal with it I guess! I have a computer at home which is easier to type on.
Army says
No there is not. Sandboxx is a phone app only. thanks for asking!

Im not a technical petson at all. I have trouble taking selfies! How hard is the sandboxx app and how much does it cost?
Army says
There are a few plans. I recommend that you download the app and check it out to see if you like it.

I type letters on my laptop and on my phone. I prefer my laptop since I can type faster but I’ll use my phone at lunch at work or if I have a new picture I want to use. I still usually send snail mail with newpaper clippings, cartoons, inspirational pictures, etc but I really like Sandboxx for those times when I need to tell him something fast.
Just an FYI, Sandboxx will tell you your letter is on the way and that it has been delivered. This does NOT mean your SIT (soldier in training -at basic training) has actually received the letter. Mail call is up to the Drill Sergeants and depends on what the group is doing and if they’ve earned their mail.
They are also really good about telling you about base mail room closings – usually 2 days for every holiday so far in our experience. They can help you with travel arrangements for graduations with competitive pricing and more.
